the latest wells family antics

By day 3 we wanted to start adventuring around so we took a trip to the north shore of the island.  Here we found Hobo's (Jobo's) beach which had an entire days worth of activities in one place.  Because of the shape of the coast there was a blowhole, perfect surfing waves and a calm cove for swimming.  The kids spent most of the time swimming because they were so excited there were no waves.  Both were pretty proud of themselves for their accomplishments and would only come in when Chris and I were exhausted and needed a break (and a rum punch!). We had lunch once again on the ocean.......it just never got old!  After lunch we set off to check out the blowhole.  We never did get any good pics or video of it, but you get the idea of how cool it was.  Since this was such a long day we went home and made dinner back at the house.

On our first full day we headed to the beach at the end of our street called Sandy Beach.  This beach was beautiful with huge waves.  We immediately got our first taste of the surfing scene that Rincon is known for.  We also realized that we were not in a tourist area although there was nothing else would could have needed. Our favorite part was that there was no one else there. After spending the morning crashing in the waves and digging in the sand, we hit the Tamboo Bar for lunch.  The first of many meals right on the ocean.  After a little more beach time (and beach hockey that Richie had invented -- bamboo for sticks and a coconut as the puck!) the kids were exhausted so we put them in the car for a nap so we could explore Rincon.  The town is small and very authentic although we found quite a few New Yorkers at the bars we went to! We got up super early to catch our flight to San Juan.  The kids did pretty well on the plane although we had to keep them very occupied with games, music and the Jet Blue TV while it lasted.  Once we landed we had to get our rental car and drive the 2+ hours to Rincon.  This unfortunately took longer than we had hoped.  When we hit Rincon, we headed to the "grocery store" called the Econo.  Boy did we have a taste of Puerto Rico right away!  Eventually we made our way to our house and ran around checking out the place.   The kids were in heaven because their room was a loft that had a spiral staircase. The house we stayed at is owned by Rich Brown who works with Chris.  He had given us the low down on just about everything he could think of that we may need.  His first tip was to go across the street to George and Marilyn's house for their annual Superbowl party!  This party...

While Chris was away on his annual ski weekend with his friends, Babci came to visit.  Although we missed him, the kids had full days of playing.  They did crafts, played hockey, colored and built some of the "big boy" Legos Richie got for his birthday.  You can see his new sea plane here.  He is VERY proud because he knows they are for big kids. 

Richie had his 4 year well visit at the doctor today.  He seemed so old because they did a hearing and vision test.  I remember when we used to have to strip him down and lie him on the scale!  Everything looks great although the doctor is slightly concerned with how skinny he is (he only weighs 30 pounds!).  Poor thing had to get 4 shots and a blood test (we want to rule out any possible slow growth problems like Celiac).  Chris is also going away with his friends skiing this weekend so he picked Richie up from school to do something fun.....sledding!
